EVENTS DIARY FOR 2008

CLUB 50TH ANNIVERSARY 1958-2008

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. - Thursday 10th April at 7.45pm in Hunsdon Village Hall

Reports from officers on the current year programme for the current anniversary year  followed and by election of committee members for 2008/9.

Following the success last year, this will again be followed by a light hearted gardening quiz with participants in teams of four so don’t worry if you have limited horticultural knowledge, somebody else will know!    Wine and nibbles are provided and there will be the usual raffle.

SPRING OUTING BETH CHATTO’S GARDEN, ELMSTEAD MARKET, ESSEX

 Saturday 17th May.

Leaving from the village hall at 11.30am arriving back around 5.pm   The provisional  cost is £22.00 to include coach and entry.

There are five acres of beautiful landscaped gardens containing a vast variety of plants providing year round interest.  The club have not visited the gardens for several years and last time it was in the autumn so the committee thought that a spring visit would give the opportunity to appreciate a different view of the planting.

Only light refreshments are available at the gardens so it is recommended that members take a packed lunch.

Full details nearer time of booking.

VILLAGE FETE.  - Saturday 7th June. 1.0pm - 4.0pm on the playing field.

As last year, this will be the club’s only plant sale and a large stall will accommodate the wide range of quality plants that we always have available at realistic prices.     We depend on members contributing the plants and the committee would like them all to make a special effort in our anniversary year.

SUMMER OUTING TO THE OLD VICARAGE AT EAST RUSTON, NORFOLK

These gardens are well known, being regularly featured on TV and have a multitude of small gardens of varied design and planting in the grounds of the house  .

Only light refreshments are available so its another case of taking packed lunches.

Full details nearer time of booking.

We are hoping for a bumper show this year to celebrate our 50th Anniversary.

AUTUMN MEETING - Thursday 9th October at 8.0pm in Hunsdon Village Hall.

Again, as a special for the anniversary the committee have really pulled out all the stops and booked Christine Walkden, a regular contributor to TV gardening programmes and particularly well known for her Christine’s Garden series.  The subject of her talk will be  Hardy Plants for the Garden.

We are really looking for a good turnout for this one to which both members and non members will be welcome and full details will be announced later in the year.

OPEN EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

The Club will again run the popular Spring and Summer Front Gardens Competition open to all in the village with the addition this year of an additional prize in the summer for the best hanging basket…   Following the success of last year’s Best Allotment Competition this will be held again in 2008 with judging in June and August.
