Hunsdon has a good number of public rights of way within its boundaries that are regularly enjoyed by residents and visitors to the village. In general it is the responsibility of the landowner to keep the paths themselves in reasonable condition, although features such as stiles, gates, signs etc are provided by the local authority. In order to ensure that paths are kept usable, Hunsdon has established a partnership with the local authority, wherein the Parish Council has appointed a Parish Paths Warden to provide local liaison. Our Warden is currently John Ashley MBE. In 2003 Hunsdon Parish Council (in association with Eastwick and Gilston Parish Councils) was awarded a grant by Hertfordshire County Council's Countryside Management Service, and asked John to manage the design and production of a map showing all local footpaths. The resulting map was completed in 2004, and a Map Board showing the map was erected opposite the Village Hall in March 2004. Click here to see the map. In 2005, John suggested to the Parish Council - a suggestion which was willingly endorsed - the he should write a new book of set walks using the public Rights of Way within Hunsdon and the surrounding parishes. That book has now been completed and published. See John's background to the book and learn how to get your own copy here. If you become aware of any public paths falling below reasonable standard, then please mention this to John.
