NEW PC

As you may or may not be aware, the Rural Team has had a change of PC again. Your new constable is PC (1224) Neil FOOTE who has been covering the rural area for some six weeks now. Your PCSO for Rural Area is PCSO (6589) Suzanne HESKETH. We will continue to work early and late shifts helping with partnerships and our communities.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

Neighbourhood Watch continues to go from strength to strength and is an invaluable tool in our fight against crime. To find out if there is a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in your area or to start a Scheme, please contact the Watch Liaison Officer Jill Dockley.

Tel: 01992 533 043 or email Jill.dockley@herts.pnn.police.uk

TACK MARKING

Tack marking for saddles is now available. Please email Suzanne for more information.

DON'T LOSE YOUR WHEELS

With the darker nights now upon us, it is inevitable that we will have problems again with unlicensed motorbikes in and around the villages. The only areas on which these vehicles can be ridden are private lands with the owner's permission. Some of these bikes are being ridden without helmets or proper safety equipment and are often untaxed and are very noisy!

Police do have the powers to seize these vehicles under Section 59(4) of the Police Reform Act 2002, once a Warning has been given. Please continue to ring the non-emergency number 0845 33 00 222 when these riders are sighted.

ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

If you are a victim of Anti-Social Behaviour, as well as calling the Police you can also report it to Julie Lawrence, Anti-Social Behaviour Co-ordinator at East Herts Council on 01992 531423, where you can also obtain Anti-Social Behaviour Diaries to record incidents of nuisance behaviour.

HOME SECURITY SCHEME

The Countrywide Home Security Scheme aims to provide home security free of charge to those who qualify. This service can include fitting security measures such as door chains, locks, spy holes and smoke detectors. To qualify you need to be:

*   60 or over

*   Single parents

*   Vulnerable or housebound

If you or someone you know might benefit from the service please call your local office to arrange a visit on 01279 755905.

VEHICLE CRIME

Don't be a target for motor vehicle crime. You are twice as likely to have something taken from your car than have your car stolen. Every time you leave your car REMEMBER:

*   To close all windows and sunroofs

*   Lock all the doors and the boot

*   Set your immobiliser and alarm if you have one fitted or consider having one fitted

*   Always take the keys out of the ignition

*   Don't leave any valuables on show in the vehicle and remove stereos and satellite navigation systems from the vehicle. Even leaving an empty carrier bag on display can be a temptation - a thief may think it contains something valuable!

PEACE OF MIND WHILE YOU'RE AWAY SUMMER OR WINTER

Everyone needs a holiday sometime, but almost half of all burglaries happen when a flat or house is empty. BEFORE YOU GO AWAY REMEMBER TO:

*   Make your home look like someone is living in it. Use automatic timer switches to turn lights on when it goes dark.

*   Cancel any milk or newspaper deliveries.

*   Uncollected mail is a sign you are away. The Royal Mails Keepsafe service will keep mail for up to two months while you are away.

*   Consider putting valuable pedal cycles and similar items in your house instead of a shed.

*   Finally, make sure you have locked all outside doors and windows and, if you have a burglar alarm, make sure it is set (please ensure that a neighbour or local Police have the keyholders details).

*   CLOSE ALL WINDOWS
